Actor James Denton will be the host.

And it will be seen live on Country Music Television.

All new – but San Diego's participation remains the same.

As she has been for 20 years, San Diegan Vangie Burt is still the "Host Mom" – the woman who is the perennial host to Miss California while she prepares for the national Miss America competition.

Vangie introduced Miss California, Dustin-Leigh Konzelman, to friends Sunday night at a reception in the Versailles Room of the Westgate Hotel.

Dustin-Leigh needed little introduction. She was Miss San Diego when she won the Miss California title. She is 23, lives in Carlsbad and has just graduated – magna cum laude – from California Baptist University in Riverside.

She spoke briefly to the crowd and played a jaunty "Listen to the Mockingbird" on the violin.

Traditionally, Miss America contestants live away from home and family for a few months while concentrating on preparing for the pageant.

Vangie explained that she has been host to each Miss California since 1986 because, she insists, "I live near the airport and I have an extra bedroom and bath."

Some of the people at Sunday's reception were Bob Arn-hyn (he's president of the Miss California Scholarship Organization in California), Jewell and Jim Bonner, Elaine and Bruce Boland, Peggy Matthews, Patti and Coop Cooprider, Nina Sharp, Carolyn Elledge and Bud Baker, Tom Fat, Dotti Howe, Mike Alessio, Lurece Hunter, Becky Ivans and Russell Downer, Fern Murphy, Mary McGregor, Bonnie and Scody Hage, Charlotte Neilsen, and Kay Rippee. (Charlotte and Kay had just returned from a Mexican Riviera cruise.)

Diane and Alan Uke were there, and so were Carolyn and Don Waggoner, Mary Walker, Eleanore White, Judy and Bob Witty, Mary and Ad Appleby, Bette and Stan Counts, Amy and Ed Fike, Betty and Jim Brayshay, Betty Dosé and Brooks Crabtree, Gordie and Judge Rudi Brewster, Jeanne Frost and Fred Hage, Ralphine Greaves, Katherine Rogerson, Mary and Steve Godwin, Marci Burt Hayes and Dave Comstock, and Anne and John Hirokawa with their son and daughter, Tyler and Katlyn.

Vangie Burt was escorted by her fiancé, Jim Regan. They were high school sweethearts in Monrovia, but until August of last year hadn't seen each other since.

He gave her an engagement ring Christmas night.
